Foreign Ministry comments on Jiang Zemin's US visit

At a regular press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said that President Jiang's visit to the United States is an important event in the further development of Sino－US ties.

The spokesman said the Chinese and US presidents would hold in－depth discussions on bilateral relations and on a range of matters of mutual concern. The talks will also touch on some sensitive international issues.

Liu Jianchao said the frequent in－depth exchange of views between the two large nations was helpful in solving some major international issues.

He added he was convinced the visit would increase mutual understanding and trust and boost the growth of constructive and cooperative ties between the two countries.
