　　国　名：埃塞俄比亚联邦民主共和国

　　Official Name: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

　　国　旗：自上而下由绿黄红三条彩块和位于中央的国徽共同组成。１９９６年１０月３０日，人民代表院通过国旗法修正案，进一步明确了国徽在国旗上的位置。根据该法，国旗将位于国旗中央，在三色旗的绿色彩块中线和红色中线之间。

　　国　徽：在蓝色背景下由一颗五角星和等距离的竖线组成，分别象征光明的未来和民族、宗教、性别等。

　　自然地理：位于非洲东北部的内陆国。北同厄立特里亚毗连，东与吉布提、东南和索马里为邻，西与苏丹交界，南与肯尼亚接壤。境内以山地高原为主，大部分属埃塞俄比亚高原，有“非洲屋脊”之称。气候温和。东南和东北地区有干旱的沙漠。

　　Location: Located in eastern Africa, Ethiopia is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Somalia to the southeast, Djibouti to the east, Sudan to the west and Kenya to the south. It has a generally temperate climate, but drought is a frequent problem in the desert areas of the southeast and northeast.

　　政　治：埃塞俄比亚新宪法规定，埃塞在民族自治的基础上实行联邦制和议会内阁制，组建多民族军队，各民族享有民族自决权和分离权，实行土地公有制并发展自由经济等。

　　１９９４年１２月，经选举产生的制宪议会通过《埃塞俄比亚民主共和国宪法草案》，使之成为埃塞历史上第四部宪法，规定在过渡期经束后生效。１９９５年１月８－１３日，执政的埃塞俄比亚人民革命民主阵线召开第二次全国代表大会，确定把发展经济作为今后的主要任务，并通过了《和平、民主和发展五年计划》和新的章程。５月７日，埃塞举行首次多党参加的全国和地方选举。８月２１日，埃塞新议会两院举行首次会议，２２日，两院举行联席会议，通过三项宣言，并宣告埃塞俄比亚联邦民主共和国正式成立，新宪法同时正式生效。同日，原过渡政府新闻部长、制宪议会主席内加索·吉达达当选为共和国总统并宣誓就职。２３日，过渡政府总统梅莱斯·泽纳维宣誓就任联邦民主共和国首任总理，并受命组阁。埃塞大选和新共和国的成立标志着国家四年政治过渡期的正式结束。定改国体为联邦制。

　　埃塞俄比亚是具有三千多年历史的古国。公元前８世纪，建立努比亚王国。公元前后阿克苏姆建立埃塞俄比亚帝国，又称阿克苏姆王国。１３世纪建立阿比西尼亚王国。１９世纪初分裂成许多公国。１８８９年，绍阿国孟尼利克二世称帝，统一全国，建都亚的斯亚贝巴，奠定现代埃塞俄比亚疆域。１８９０年意大利入侵，宣布埃塞受其“保护”。１８９６年埃塞军队大败意军，１０月，意被迫承认埃塞独立。１９２８年海尔·塞拉西登基为国王，１９３０年１１月２日，加冕为海尔·塞拉西一世皇帝。１９７４年９月１２日，一批少壮军官发动军事政变推翻海尔·塞拉西政府，宣布废黜帝制，成立“临时军事行动委员会”。１９７７年２月，门格斯图·海尔·马里亚姆中校发动政变。１９８７年９月，门格斯图改国名为“埃塞俄比亚人民民主共和国”。１９９１年５月２８日，门政权被推翻，７月成立“过渡政府”，“埃塞俄比亚人民革命民主阵线”主席梅莱斯·泽纳维任过渡政府总统。１９９４年１２月，制宪会议通过新宪法规定，埃塞是联邦民主共和国。１９９５年举行大选，过渡期结束，新宪法正式生效。

　　Ethiopia is an ancient country with a history of more than 3,000 years. In the third century B.C., the Aksumitic Empire was established. In 13th century an Abyssinian State came into being. Portugal and Britain occupied Ethiopia afterwards. In 1890, the Italian forces took control of Ethiopia and made the country an Italian protectorate. Ethiopia's army defeated Italian forces in Mar. 1896, and Italy was forced to recognize Ethiopian independence. In Nov. 1930, Haile Sellassie I was enthroned as Emperor. In 1974, the armed forces deposed the Emperor and a Provisional Military Administrative Council headed by Aman Andom was formed. At the same time, the junta abolished the constitution and dissolved the parliament. After Mengistu Haile Mariam took power in a coup, the Provisional Military Administrative Council headed by Mengistu exercised ultimate power proclaimed the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in September 1987. In May 1991 Mengistu's regime was overthrown and a transitional government was established in July with Meles Zanawi, the Chairman of the EPRDF, as interim president of the transitional government. In December, the Constituent Assembly ratified the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which went into effect in May, 1995, when general elections were held and the transtitional period ended.
